10 QUESTIONS WITH..
Hello Hiyam! Thank you for agreeing to do this interview! Would love to know more about you and your background! Have you always been living in London? If not, since when and what are your favourite parts about this city?
I absolutely LOVE London and have been living here for just over 9 (!) years now. So it feels like home even if I don’t have the accent yet… Most of my London life has been in the East so this is definitely my favourite part of town.
Your job sounds really exciting! Please tell us more about what you do!
I work in Sales at Nestle and manage the 4th biggest supermarket account. It’s basically like running your own little business within a big corporation where you have a full team to support and a budget to use in the best way to achieve the required results.
That sounds like a lot of responsability! How did you get to do this?
It’s a little random how I ended up here… I did an internship at an investment bank where my project was to do a sales pitch about why you should buy Nestle stock. In the process I thought that Nestle sounded pretty interesting so a little while later, I ended up there ☺.
What do you find the most exciting about your work?
It is never ever quiet. On a day-to-day basis I typically deal with loads of people in many different functions and for many different reasons. I quite like having a busy job like this.
What have been the biggest challenges you faced in career or life and what helped you overcome them?
I started off my young adult life after university thinking that I’d have a career in investment banking. Realising that it wasn’t for me and that I wanted to find something that I’d enjoy more was pretty hard because I went from having a fully thought-out plan to no plan at all! An awesome circle of family and friends helped.
What do you like to wear at work? Do you have any favourite pieces?
We have the luxury of a very loose dress code policy so I tend to dress up and dress down depending on how I feel. I’ve got a beautiful black pair of high heels though which I find hard to resist wearing ☺.
What’s your off-duty style?
I like slightly quirky pieces in either a lot of different colours or darks. This summer I loved wearing colourful long skirts because they keep it so breezy!
What is your favourite Changing Factor bag?
I love backpacks these days so definitely the Alien Mini Backpack in yellow.
Now when it comes to having fun… what do you like to do in your free time??
Friends are super important to me so I love hanging out with them to go out for drinks, have beautiful food together, explore London on just chill at home and do nothing! I also love travelling and tend to always have a holiday booked (upcoming: Cambodia and Laos).
Share with us a favourite piece of advice, quote, or saying of any kind!
When I was 19 this cool neighbour recommended to "Fake it ‘till you make it". Given that I can remember it and that was almost a decade ago(!), I guess it’s one of my favourites.
