10 questions with.. Aggy Galieva
Hello Aggy! So happy to get to chat to you. Would love to know more about you and your background! Have you always been living in New York? If not, since when and what are your favourite parts about this city?
I was born in Kyrgyzstan, grew up in London and moved to New York a year ago now.
New York is an incredibly fast paced city and there is so much to explore! I feel like I have barely scraped the surface but so far my favourite part of the city is the West Village. It’s a little bit of a break from all of the skyscrapers and has such wonderful character. I can get lost around the picturesque streets all day!
Your job sounds really exciting! Please tell us more about what you do!
I am a project manager in the fund placement practice at Campbell Lutyens. Essentially, we raise capital globally from investors and provide specialist advice to fund managers.
That sounds very interesting! How did you get to do this?
I was always orientated towards finance so when I finished university I went straight into a bulge bracket bank. I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do but I thought corporate finance would provide for excellent experience and would open doors in the financial industry.
The experience was indeed invaluable, challenging and definitely character building, but after a couple of years I knew it wasn’t for me.
I spent a while thinking about what I wanted to do professionally and explored opportunities in many different industries. The right company, culture and people were also very important factors for me - after all we spend five out of our seven days a week at work! After several months of exploring, I came across an opportunity at Campbell Lutyens. Admittedly, I had not at that point had much exposure to fund placement! I talked to all of my contacts to get as much information as possible and as I learnt more, I realized that this was a role which ticked every box for me. When I came in to meet the team - it just clicked for me.
What do you find the most exciting about your work?
My work is multifaceted. I find that it layers a lot of different challenges and allows me to develop different quantitative and qualitative skills sets from technical financial analysis, legal and regulatory navigation, presenting to simply understanding relationships. It means that every day brings a new and different challenge and with it, a new learning opportunity, which I think is the most important for professional and personal development.
What have been the biggest challenges you faced in career or life and what helped you overcome them?
Finding the confidence to continuously pursue my ambitions has been the biggest challenge. For me this means triumphing over the natural fear, anxiety and self-doubt that comes with navigating a career, life and taking risks, especially as a woman!
I have three incredible women in my life to thank for helping me overcome my biggest challenge. Without their kindness, fortitude and mentorship, I would not have taken the leaps of faith that I have to date.
What do you like to wear at work? Do you have any favourite pieces?
Unless I have a meeting, I usually opt for comfort - something that you can quickly dress up if required but is comfortable enough to spend the whole day in!
What’s your off-duty style?
Casual but comfortable is key! A loosely fitted silk dress coupled with a denim jacket or an oversized cashmere jumper is my off-duty style of choice.
What is your favourite Changing Factor bag?
The Alien Clutch Bag! (I also have Alien Geometric Card Holder in red which is the perfect pop of colour and conveniently fits everything I need!)
Now when it comes to having fun… what do you like to do in your free time??
Currently, it’s exploring New York - all of the galleries, Broadway shows and restaurants!

Always stand on the right!
